Kazuma Tomoto at Badminton, Japanese showjumper who has turned eventer. Pictured here with his horse Tacoma D’Horset (Taco for short) at the Badminton horse trials, where he is competing for the first time this year 2019.
I was asked at short notice to shoot a portrait of Kazuma Tomoto at Badminton for The daily Telegraph.
Living in Gloucestershire there are plenty of sport portraits to be taken and I have been asked win the past to shoot footballers, rugby players etc bit this is the first time I have been to Badminton.
We were fortunate enough to dodge the showers and managed to gat Kazuma and his horse out I front of the house at Badminton.
Although usually very well behaved horses do not like change and as we put up a small flash light to create interesting images the animal became agitated.
I decided to put away the light in favour of natural light photography, better to get more options for the picture desk than to risk only one crack at a picture before the horse would have to be taken away.
Working quickly as a national press photographerI managed 4 or 5 different scenarios, some ion the stable yard and others as published on The Daily Telegraph Website at the house.
My favourite shot however was not the one used on the website but the one I am posting here.
Kazuma and his horse look so natural and a team, friends caught in amount of joy and relaxation under the tress in front of the house at Badminton.
